President of the European Commission, Ursula Von der Leyen urged European Union leaders to immediately begin EU membership talks for Albania and Northern Macedonia.
She stated that Russia or China could fill the gap if the European Union is not present in the region.
In a speech of the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall ,Von der Leyen said Europe “has demanded a lot from Northern Macedonia and Albania, and they have fulfilled it all”.
She said EU leaders have been delaying accession for Western Balkan countries since 2003 and warned that if Brussels provides a European perspective for the Western Balkan states “others will fill the void – China, Russia, Turkey or Saudi Arabia”. /abcnews.al
