Interior Minister Taulant Balla and the Foreign Minister of Great Britain, James Cleverly visited together the new Border Police Station in Rinas, built with the funds of the British government as an aid to increase the capacities of the State Police.
Minister Balla first expressed his gratitude for the support for the Border Police building at the Airport as well as the expertise of British Police employees. The British side has also donated several drones, which will be used to control the land and sea border.
For his part, the British minister praised the cooperation with the Albanian side as very effective, which according to him has reduced by 90% the number of crossings by Albanians towards the border of Great Britain.
“I think it is such a positive model to show that cooperation can bring results. We know this to be true. We say it even when it is coordination between government departments or nations. The fact that we have been able to prove how effective it is in such a short time is just fantastic. Really fantastic.
The fact that the relationship has developed from a relationship that addresses the illegal immigration of Albanians in Great Britain to a relationship that addresses the problem of the passage of immigrants from third countries through Albania is not common. What might success look like? The fact that you can have significant results within 1 year and then say who is the next stage of success”, said Cleverly.
On the other hand, Minister Balla said that Britain can extend the cooperation model with Albania to other countries.
“It is important that we are ready to continue this cooperation in other areas as well, such as the joint fight against organized crime or other issues. Yes, as you also underlined, it is 90% less since Prime Minister Rama and your Prime Minister Sunak met last time in December in your country when we signed the agreement”, stressed Balla.
