The next EU-Western Balkans summit will take place on December 6 in Tirana. The news was announced by the president of the European Council, Charles Michel, through a post on Twitter.
“The Western Balkans is a key priority for the European Union. The EU and the Western Balkans need each other”, Charles Michel wrote in a tweet. The summit comes at a time when Albania and North Macedonia have started negotiations, while Kosovo is awaiting visa liberalization and Bosnia-Herzegovina is awaiting the status of a candidate country.
Recently, Prime Minister Rama in a reaction related to the summit, states that Tirana is no longer what it was until a few years ago, but is the capital of a country respected in international politics, as well as a new attractive European city for its impressive development.
“The President of the European Council, Charles Michel, has made public the welcome decision for the organization of the EU-Western Balkans Summit on December 6, in Tirana. I don’t believe that anyone could have imagined until a few years ago that all EU leaders would come down to Tirana, for a job that has always been done in Brussels. But today Tirana is no longer what it was until a few years ago, it is the capital of a country respected in international politics, as well as a new European city attractive for its impressive development.
For the history of Albania’s international relations, this is an absolutely historic event. For Tirana, this is the biggest international event in its history. For 2022, which is coming to an end, this event is the icing on the cake after the beautiful climax of the UEFA Conference League Final at the home of the Rossoneri.
As for me and the Albanian government, the organization in Tirana of a summit of the leaders of the European Union & the Western Balkans is the most beautiful fruit of the effort to affirm Albania as a respected voice and dignified member of the international community.
