Albanian President Ilir Meta announced today that he has decreed changes in the Penal Code, approved a week ago by the Albanian Parliament. In a statement to the media, Meta said he supported the amendments to the Penal Code.

Asked about the government’s decision to temporarily withdraw from the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights, Meta said that in such a situation, for major reasons, a member state takes imposed decisions.

Asked from the journalist about the opposition’s accusations that the government has bought tests at most expensive prices than the official value, Meta stressed out that in such a pandemic situation, the essence is transparency.

In his statement, Meta also said that he appreciates and agrees with  the initiative of the Assembly and the Government that the protection of public health should be guaranteed by the criminal norm, although he has some reservations about it./abcnews.al
