Epidemiologists: Covid cases expected to increase in autumn

The Institute of Public Health officially confirmed on Tuesday the presence of variants BA1 of Omikron and BA2 in our country. The announcement of the IPH came after receiving the answer of the analysis from the reference laboratory in Germany.

Invited to Abc Live, the epidemiologist of the Institute of Public Health Rovena Daja says that the new variants are more contagious but also cause mild forms of the disease. According to the epidemiologist, it rarely happens that the new variants are more severe than the first form of the virus.

Daja said that Albania is currently in a calm epidemiological situation, but added that vigilance should not be reduced and that is exactly the moment when vaccination should be increased.

“According to the data, we have 45% of the population vaccinated with two doses, while with the third dose the percentage is lower. Vaccinate those who have never been vaccinated. This can be called a pandemic of the unvaccinated. ”

Epidemiology explained that Covid-19 will accompany us long, but in light form. According to her, we can have an increase of cases in autumn, in September-October, when the flu will also circulate. Meanwhile, a vaccine is expected to be produced that could be effective for all variants of the virus.
