Prime Minister Edi Rama has hailed this Tuesday the agreement reached for the normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia during the meeting between Prime Minister Albin Kurti and President Aleksandar Vucic in Brussels.
In a social media statement, the Head of Albanian Government Peace and cooperation are essential for the future, as well as that Albania is and will remain a firm believer and a role model when it comes to peace and cooperation.
“Peace and cooperation are key for the future we owe to our kids in this region devastated for ages from lack of peace and cooperation. I welcome the consent of the two sides for the Agreement on the Path to Normalization between Kosova and Serbia.
This is an important milestone for regional peace and I strongly encourage all parties involved to continue working on a swift implementation. On peace and cooperation Albania is and will remain a firm believer and a role model. We fully support every effort to overcome the past.
I wish that no one accuses Albin Kurti of betrayal or forgetfulness, but that everyone understands that today’s prime minister of Kosovo has done the right thing, taking a very important first step towards getting out of yesterday’s trap. Other steps followed without wasting time”, said PM Rama.
Earlier on, the European Union published the agreement for the normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia, which emphasizes that the inviolability of borders and respect for territorial integrity and sovereignty and the protection of national minorities are a fundamental condition for peace between the two countries.
In presence of the head of foreign policy of the European Union, Joseph Borrell, and the EU envoy for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, Miroslav Lajcak, it was agreed that Kosovo and Serbia will recognize their respective documents and national symbols.
According to the agreement, the sides must respect each other’s sovereign equality, independence, autonomy and territorial integrity, the right to self-determination, the protection of human rights and non-discrimination. To resolve the differences between them, Pristina and Belgrade should not use threats or use force. Serbia should not even oppose Kosovo’s membership in international organizations.
