US Ambassador to Albania Yuri Kim stated that justice institutions must work together to fight crime. Kim stated that the focus is on working together to build public confidence in the justice system.
She added that the system is not yet on top of performance, also due to the shortcomings created by the vetting process, emphasizing that Biden’s order for corrupt officials will also boost prosecutors’ offices in Albania.
“Thank you for inviting me to join. It is good to look at gathered to discuss together the fight against crime. You know better than I do. I am a foreigner but you live here. The fight against crime does not depend on the work of a single institution. Our focus today is working together to build public confidence in the justice system. In recent years, since the institutions were set up they have begun to build public trust.
The system is not yet on top of performance. It is time to build a bridge to address the staff shortages created by vetting. Biden has identified other reprehensible behaviors and has made the order wider against persons involved in corruption. This order will encourage prosecutors’ offices in Albania to fight corruption. I urge you all to work to identify gaps in your institutional capacity. “The United States will continue to support you in building a more prosperous and democratic Albania,” Kim said. / abcnews.al
