Tirana, man arrested for extorting EUR 70,000 from businessman

A 52-year-old man has been handcuffed this Tuesday by Tirana Police, on the charge of taking large sums of money from businessmen through fraud.

Within the coded operation “Architect”, it became possible to arrest 52-year-old Shpëtim Hida, who was caught in the act of deceiving a businessman to extort him off EUR 70,000.

During the operation, it was possible to seize the 70,000 EUR, a vehicle and a mobile phone. According to the police, the 52-year-old used social networks to request large sums of money from businessmen, after introducing himself to them as a senior official of a state institution.

Meanwhile, the State Police invites citizens, economic operators nationwide and other victims, in case they know or suspect criminal activity of this nature, to report it without hesitation, to the police structures throughout the country, by guaranteed that the State Police has all the capacities in human and operational resources to punish anyone who is implicated in this criminal activity and in any other illegality.

“Unit “E” for the Investigation of Economic and Financial Crimes in the Investigative Directorate in the Criminal Police Department in the DPPSH, in cooperation with the Tirana Local Police Directorate and the Directorate of the Special Operational Force in the DPPSH, under the direction of the Prosecutor’s Office of Tirana, thanks to the increase of citizens’ trust, to report to the police structures, cases of criminal activity with the aim of benefiting from monetary values, based on the information provided by the information intelligence, has successfully organized and finalized another operation to attack this criminal activity.

During the coded police operation “Architect”, the Police services caught the citizen Sh. H., 52 years old, resident in Tirana, while receiving the sum of 70,000 euros from a citizen (businessman), whom he had deceived in communications on social networks, presenting himself as a senior official of a state institution. The sum of 70,000 euros was seized as material evidence, together with a vehicle and a mobile device.

From the investigative actions, it is suspected that the 52-year-old has also deceived other citizens, in communications on social networks, asking them for money, after presenting himself as a senior official of a state institution.

The investigative work continues for the complete documentation of the criminal activity of this citizen.

The materials were passed to the Prosecutor’s Office of Tirana, for the criminal offense of “Fraud”.

The State Police thanks the citizens, for the increase in trust to report such cases, but also other cases of illegality, in all areas where they appear, to the police structures”, stated the police announcement.
