Prime Minister Edi Rama and Chancellor, Olaf Scholz, while they were at a press conference after their meeting in Berlin, were asked by the journalist of ABC News, Esiona Konomi, about the phenomenon of the departure of doctors and nurses from Albania to Germany.

Rama said that they have discussed this issue and the solution is being seen through a European way. On the other hand, Scholz said that it is unfair to look for the need for manpower only within the EU and it is intended to open up beyond it.

Many doctors and nurses have left Albania and come to Germany, you Rama said that there is no place for Albania to prepare doctors for Germany and that this investment should be returned, or do you want it to be returned and how will it be returned?

Chancellor, do you know this debt and are you ready to pay for the doctors we bring you?

Rama: We have also discussed this issue. We cannot ask Germany to stop the free movement of human capital and to stop the free movement of those from Albania who want to prove themselves in the German markets.

We discussed how we should find mechanisms so that Albania is not the direct financier of the German health system.

While I explained to the chancellor that our students paid 1/16 of the cost, while the government pays the rest. These are topics of the time, we are in a time when all countries need labor force. It is necessary to find a European way.

Scholz: We talked about it. Free movement is a great challenge and a great achievement of the EU. I remember very well the times when this was very difficult to happen. Many challenges are associated with this freedom today. Our country also feels responsible that the need for workers is not only covered by the EU, but also beyond. This certainly makes the situation in Europe even more manageable.
