The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Igli Hasani, participated in the proceedings of the Summit of Afghan women, the largest meeting of the last three years of women and girls human rights activists from Afghanistan, held in Tirana under the auspices of the Ministry for Europe.
During his speech, the minister said that although the international community has raised its voice against the Taliban’s attitude towards respecting basic human rights, there is still a lot of work to be done in order to ease and improve the situation of Afghan women and girls.
“It is necessary for the international community to extend its support and amplify efforts in the fight for the protection and respect of fundamental freedoms. We must provide them with the resources, expertise and solidarity they need to rebuild their lives and create a society where gender equality is not just a distant dream, but a tangible reality.
All of us must intensify calls to ensure that the voices of women’s civil society organizations and human rights defenders in Afghanistan are heard and considered in relevant international bodies and beyond.
Our efforts to address the humanitarian aspects, human rights and the socio-economic situation in Afghanistan risk failing if we do not properly and timely address the catastrophic situation of women and girls in this country,” said Hasani.
Furthermore, he mentioned that Albania has also been part of the international efforts to bring peace and stability to Afghanistan, within the framework of the ISAF mission, and then, through the “Resolute Support” mission, led by NATO.
“Hosting Afghans fleeing from the horror of the return of the Taliban to power is not only a deep oath of honor, linked to Albania’s unique tradition of hospitality, but it clearly demonstrates the determination of the Albanian government to secure every Afghan who enters the territory our people, especially women and girls, with all the basic tools needed to enjoy human dignity and full security in our country.
We have a proverb that says: “Albanian’s home is a friend and a traveler”. Although a small country with limited opportunities, we are proud to have become part of the community of democratic countries that took on the noble burden of not only housing, but also restoring dignity and humanity to all Afghans who were forced to leave their homeland. theirs and in particular Afghan women and girls. We did not open the doors of our homes, we opened our hearts to a noble and long-suffering people”, Hasan added.
According to him, guaranteeing the rights of women and girls remains a priority of the Albanian government. “For the Albanian government, guaranteeing the rights of women and girls and advancing the “Women, Peace and Security” agenda remains one of the main priorities, not only in words and politics but also in concrete actions and achievements.
By ensuring their meaningful participation at all levels, we have seen the real benefits of a society that knows how to use everyone’s energy and creativity to contribute to development and progress significantly in the long term,” said the minister, among other things./abcnews.al
