Ambassador of the European Union in Albania, Luigi Soreca declared Friday that the integration of the Western Balkans in the bloc will be at the top of the political agenda at the summit of the Berlin Process, which will take place on October 16 in Tirana.

During a conference regarding the role of the parliament in the path of integration, Soreca stated that the Berlin Process plays a very important role for the countries of the region.

According to Soraca, the objective is to unite the countries of the Western Balkans in a common market before entering the EU and for the countries to have friendly relations.

“It is very important that ministers and heads of state meet, but also members of the regional parliament, representatives of the people in the region, meet and show their unity, and come out with joint statements. I am very honored to now be able to participate together with members of parliament. The previous speaker said that we are meeting at a very important moment for our region, the Western Balkans is part of the EU.

The political changes with the way Russia sees Ukraine, has focused all minds in Brussels, has increased the attention, the attention has never been greater than now on the enlargement of the EU. We now understand that it is a high strategic issue for security in the EU.

We must speed up the process of reforms but also of joining the European Union. This issue is at the top of the political agenda in Albania, in the region, even this coming Monday. We hope to prepare for the Western Balkans summit which will be organized in Brussels in mid-December, following the last meeting that will take place in Tirana.

The Berlin process plays an important role because it is a platform where the region’s partners work more on projects and reforms that will prepare them to enter the EU. The Berlin summit is a catalyst for the EU to achieve friendly relations.

Albania deserves credit, as one of the first countries to take the lead and nothing happened by accident. The process that will be started by President Von der Leyen, will be a very important piece of this “puzzle”. The objective of this plan is to unite the countries of the Western Balkans in a common market before they enter the EU.

It is important to continue with the reforms. Justice reform has brought so much to this country, but also to the region in general. The gradual progress towards the EU will be helped by the promotion of some benefits that will happen with the EU membership”, emphasized Soreca.
