Prosecutor General, Olsian Çela delivered this Friday his speech at the High Prosecutorial Council (HPC), where the 3 new members will be elected this Friday, noting that Albania needs magistrates who are independent from anyone.
In his statement at the HPC, Çela said that the prosecutors are going through a difficult period, referring to the threats from the world of crime after the testimony by repentant of justice, Artan Tafani, it was revealed that Laert Haxhiu’s group was going to execute two female prosecutors.
According to Çela, such obstacles can only be overcome by standing together.
“These days, everyone has followed with concern the announcements about the endangered lives of two of our colleagues due to duty. While on the one hand these facts are serious and should be punished according to the law, on the other hand they should make us more solidary with each other and understand that these are obstacles that we can overcome only by staying together, through dedication to the task from each of us. This attitude alone will discourage anyone who thinks that through threats or serious acts of violence aimed at the lives of magistrates, they can obstruct justice.
We are going through a difficult period, accompanied for years now by a low public opinion trust in us. We must not allow some negative phenomena to tarnish and at the same time weaken our common commitment in the service of justice.
The country needs magistrates who are independent from anyone, whose reference points are the constitution and the law, and who have the courage and energy to face the challenges of the difficult profession they have chosen”, stated Olsian Çela.
