Gazment Bardhi has reacted for the first time after GJKKO assigned former Prime Minister Sali Berisha the security measure “Compulsion to appear”, regarding the privatization of the former sports complex, “Partizani”.
In a press conference from the Assembly, Bardhi said that he supports equality before the law.
Although for him, the measure of restriction of movement for Berisha constitutes a violation of the constitution, Bardhi underlined that he will vote in favor of any request that will come to the Assembly, since according to him, no one should stand above the law.
“Personally, I unreservedly support everyone’s equality before the law. In a democratic country there should be zero immunity for parliamentarians. Yesterday, I became aware of the divulged decision of GJKKO that simultaneously assigns two security measures to Mr. Sali Berisha.
Both security measures limit his freedom of movement. The restriction of the freedom of movement of Sali Berisha, without the authorization of the Assembly, is a serious constitutional violation that raises strong questions about the reasons for SPAK’s haste.
Parliamentary immunity is primarily a guarantee to opposition MPs, even though the current opposition does not seek or expect protection, immunity or preferential treatment from justice. However, for justice to be considered independent, to be treated and respected as independent, it must perform acts with the force of law, based on evidence and with transparency, unaffected by the government and respecting the regular legal process.
I would personally vote in favor of any request of the justice bodies that would come to the Assembly, as a sign of my belief that no one should stand above the law or enjoy a special status in relation to each of our voters.”, emphasized he.
