Former Prime Minister Berisha welcomed Charles Michel’s visit to Tirana, calling it a support for the country’s EU integration, but stressed that it is not the Bulgaria that hinders Albania’s path, but the state of corruption and crime.
Berisha asked the EU to open negotiations for Albania, emphasizing that this is the fairest way to make Albanian citizens aware of the real cause of the blocking of the integration process for them.
“Failure to open negotiations is an act with serious consequences, both for the country and the region. Because, on the one hand, we say that the perspective is, on the other hand, the negotiations are not opened, making the possibility for other concepts of partnership expand every year. “Secondly, as I pointed out, the real reason for not opening negotiations is not the Bulgaria, but the state of crime, drugs and theft in Albania”, said Berisha, adding that it was a mistake to pair the countries.
