US Ambassador Yuri Kim spoke about the arrival of Afghans in Albania, who flees from the Taliban regime in Afghanistan. After the meeting with Minister Xhaçka, Kim said that things are changing very quickly and there in unknown the number of Afghans who will be sheltered in Albania.
She said their accommodation in Albania will be temporary until the legal procedures for their entry into the US are completed, stressing that co-operation with the Albanian government is important.
“We had a very good meeting today. We are affected by Albania’s decision to grant to them temporary housing.
I express my gratitude to the Albanian people for their help. We do not have an exact number yet, it is changing very fast. People will come here temporarily and then will be settle in the US. “Some will travel directly to the US,” said the ambassador.
Albania has expressed readiness to host a number of Afghans who are threatened by the Taliban regime after they took control of Afghanistan.
They are expected to be sheltered in a “Qytet Studenti” facility and hotels in Tirana and Durres until their visa procedures for entry into the US will be completed./abcnews.al
