After his visit to Estonia, the Minister of Defense, Niko Peleshi, at the invitation of his counterpart, Artis Pabriks, continued his visit to Latvia.

The two delegations held a friendly meeting, in which they had the opportunity to share their thoughts and ideas to further develop and intensify cooperation in the field of defense, where of particular interest are the fields of military education and strategic communication.

Peleshi expressed his gratitude for the continued support that Latvia has given to Albania not only during the NATO membership process, but also in the efforts that our country is making to open negotiations with the European Union.

The two ministers praised the respective contributions to the commitments within the Alliance and expressed their readiness to support the decisions and commitments that are expected to be confirmed at the NATO Summit in Brussels.

The Minister reconfirmed the continuation of the presence with an EOD platoon in Camp Adazi, within the NATO mission “enhanced Forward Presence”. He thanked Minister Pabriks for all the support that the Latvian side provides to the Albanian contingent, especially during the tragic event that occurred two years ago where two Albanian soldiers lost their lives.

After the meeting at the Ministry of Defense, Peleshi traveled to Camp Adazi where he met with Latvian military officials and Canadian leaders of the battalion group. In the meeting with the Albanian contingent, the Minister congratulated the personnel of the Armed Forces in the mission “enhanced Forward Presence” for the contribution to the collective defense, their professionalism as well as for the high appreciation they have to the colleagues of the partner countries.

The Minister of Defense laid a wreath at the memorial of the martyrs of the homeland, Major Klodian Tanushi and lieutenant Zarife Hasanaj, who fell in office two years ago./abcnews.al
