The chairman of the Democratic Party, also a candidate, Lulzim Basha has continued his tour of meetings this time to seek the support of Democrats who will entrust him with the leadership of the Democratic Party for the next four years.
Before the Democrats in Gjirokastra, Memaliaj and Tepelena, Basha expressed his conviction that despite the electoral massacre, according to him by the Rama-Doshi regime, they emerged from April 25 stronger and bigger. Basha said that he feels the anger of the Democrats for the injustice and asked for support to continue this battle that they have started which as he says aims to bring change in Albania.
“The first and main thing I want to tell you as acting president and as a candidate for president that it is necessary to come out of this race united, we do not owe it to each other, we owe it to Albania because our mission and of Albanians continues. Dear Ladies and Gentlemen, Brothers and sisters, first of all I am glad to be reunited, although we rehearse a month after one of the toughest battles of pluralism. One of the most unprecedented battles in their inequality, a battle in which we faced not a political opponent, but a regime which destroyed one by one all the rules of the democratic race. In 8 years, and especially in the last year since the moment of the June 5 agreement and the confrontation is still going on in the election commission, it will soon start in the Electoral College, and it will continue as far as I am concerned until the realization of what Albanians are waiting for what has temporarily stopped on 25th April, which is the departure of this regime and the change they expect through the Democratic Party.
Albania’s dilemmas are increased even more. Everything got worse and worse on 25th April, instead of improving. Despite this confrontation, we can say that we have a great achievement: we emerged from this unequal race, from this unequal battle, and from this electoral massacre stronger and bigger than we were.
We entered with the conditions of ’91 and in front of us we had a regime not like that of ’91, not even like that of 2001, but many times richer, many times richer, many times wilder in every aspect, melted in one the interests of the party, the state, the oligarchs and organized crime. Despite the various grievances or views, disagreements that we may have as is normal a family, the name of a living and large party, such as the Democratic Party, it is we who took the responsibility before the Albanians for change, it is we who keep it still this responsibility on our shoulders. Because if we accept, there is no way we cannot accept that 25th April not only did not solve any of their problems, then we have no way not to reach the logical conclusion that those who wanted change on 25th April. The first thing I want to tell you is the immense gratitude for the extraordinary sacrifice of the Tepelena Democrats and the Memaliaj Democrats in the unequal battle with a regime that left no rules of the game untouched, left no electoral crime unintentionally committed for stop not just the Democratic Party, but the hope of Albanians for change.
From the beginning until 25th April, there was one and only one objective, to return Albania to the Albanians by bringing a functional democracy, with functional institutions and a government that serves them.
