The deputy elected in the district of Tirana on 25th April, Agron Shehaj has submitted the form of candidate for the post of chairman of the Democratic Party on 13th June. The announcement was made by Shehaj himself in a Facebook post, where he lists the reasons that pushed him to make this decision.
“We Democrats will overcome the difficult situation we are in and we will rise stronger than before. In the face of government autocracy, corruption and incompetence, we will build the alternative of freedom, honesty and ability. This requires new energies, a new vision, new direction.
With this conviction, I decided to run for Chairman of my Party. I do not see the competition as a race for a post, but as a joint effort with all Democrats who want our party to be a party of members: a truly democratic, modern and open party.
I believe that everyone should fight by going out in the square for what they believe. I believe that recovery from loss comes from action and not from the apathy of complaining about the injustices that have certainly occurred. I believe progress comes through change rather than repeating the same mistakes.
I want to express my gratitude to all of you who have trusted me and encouraged me to take responsibility for the race. I entered politics to work for people, not to get rich and I will not disappoint you,” Shehaj underlined.
Lulzim Basha will now face 4 rivals, Agron Shehaj, Ibsen Elezi, Fatbardh Kadilli and Edith Harxhi, while Lisandër Hoxha withdrew.
Meanwhile, on Sunday at 18:00, the Presidency of the Democratic Party will meet, which will decide on the candidates and the modalities of the race for the leader of the Democratic Party, which will be held on June 13./abcnews.al
