President Ilir Meta has called on Albanian political forces to decide on 100% open lists prior the April 25 elections.
Through a status on Facebook, the head of state, not sparing criticism, stressed that the Parliament should not be delegated like this.
“Open the lists for the citizens to finally elect the MPs after 12 years. Open them 100 percent!
You degraded the Parliament so much that even an agricultural cooperative assembly was once much more responsible. Albania had excellent parliamentarism 100 years ago,” said Meta, while also posting Kastriot Islam’s interview for Abc News.
Islami said that the formula proposed by Prime Minister Rama for the Electoral Code hinders pre-election coalitions. As he said, the formula of the Socialists is not for open lists, despite being proposed as such.
Islam also stressed out that this formula will put small parties out of the game, due to the 3% threshold that has been set./abcnews.al
