I met today the UN Resident Coordinator and Permanent Representative of the United Nations Development Program in Albania, Mr. Brian Williams, on the occasion of the end of his mandate in our country.
I thanked him for the cooperation and assistance that the UN agencies in Albania have given under his coordination and guidance in important areas of economic and social life of the country.
I appreciated the bold reforms undertaken in the United Nations Development System, in order to provide more effective assistance, with less bureaucracy and more focus on people, as well as their successful implementation in our country.
I emphasized the importance of accelerating the achievement of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals for Albania, which are in line with our strategic objective for EU integration.
We shared the same assessments that good governance and the rule of law; developing a comprehensive and green economy; and investment in human capital should remain the top priorities of the Sustainable Development Goals for Albania.
I expressed my gratitude for the role of the UN Agencies in Albania in promoting human rights, as well as providing support to Albanian institutions in implementing the recommendations of international human rights organizations. I also appreciated the goal of increasing investment in social protection.
I especially thanked the Resident Coordinator, Mr. Villiams, as well as all United Nations agencies in Albania for their support to Albanian institutions and the various affected layers of the population in the fight against COVID-19.
Referring to the fact that this year marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of the UN, which coincides with the 65th anniversary of Albania’s accession to the UN, I have suggested to work together on a calendar of activities, not just to commemorate these important events, but also to make a balance of Albania’s excellent cooperation with the UN./abcnews.al
