The Assembly failed to collect the necessary votes to send to the Constitutional Court the decision on the incompatibility of the mandate of the socialist deputy Olta Xhaçka.

After a marathon session in the Assembly, 65 socialist deputies abstained, 9 spoke against and 25 of the opposition voted in favor.

The Speaker of the Assembly, Elisa Spiropali, said that in relation to this issue, they will address the Venice Commission.

“From tomorrow, as the president of the Assembly, I will turn to the Venice commission to get a specialized opinion on the applicable standards in the decision-making of the legislative power, the relationship and competitiveness of the principles provided for in the constitutional law and for cases of incompatibility of the mandate of the deputy”, said Spiropali.

This was the third time that the Assembly was called to vote on the request of 1/10 of the deputies to send Xhaçka’s mandate to the Constitutional Court for consideration./abcnews.al
