On the 25th anniversary of the Liberation, the International Conference for the 25th Anniversary of the NATO Intervention was held in Pristina; “Rugova and the West”. Also present at this meeting were Prime Minister Edi Rama, US Ambassador to Kosovo, Jeffrey Hovenier and the former Prime Minister of Italy, Masimmo D’Alema.
During his speech, Prime Minister Rama said that NATO’s intervention was also a moment that marked a new page in the irreversible history of Kosovo.
Also Rama, evaluating the figure of Ibrahim Rugova, said that he gave Kosovo the important wealth, international friends, while underlining that independence, with all the guarantees for the Serbs in Kosovo, is the best solution.
“He gave his people the persistent force of water that erodes stone without noise. With a blind faith in the alliance with time and making an impossible bet of patience in a social environment like that of the Albanians where patience is rare
. The President of hope amidst the suppression of all hope. He had lived in oppressive circumstances and his passion for knowledge became the ground for knowledge and spreading it among his people.
Sometimes there was a call to conscience to the world for the right of Kosovo. Our war is peaceful and non-violent, declared Rugova with a disarming stubbornness of an unusual leader for the Balkans. Y
ou know very well when very few among those very few eyes returned from Kosovo were those who could read the pain of Kosovo. As this neighborhood of Europe drowned and was destroyed by violence and conflict, thanks to the extravagant profile of the peaceful leadership, the truth of the abused people of Kosovo began to stand out like a stone to be treasured in a scum of injustice. Rugova’s low voice began to ring,” said Rama.
