Prime Minister Edi Rama, commented Thursday the declaration of the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy for potential joint arms production.

In the press conference with the EU Enlargement Commissioner Oliver Varhelyi at the end of the Growth and Convergence for the Western Balkans Summit, Rama said that “Albania does not have a military arms production industry”.

He added that Western Balkans countries are working to establish such an agreement.

“We had a good summit and constructive discussions between President Zelensky and others. The summit showed something important, the fact that everyone was here. The region was far from Russia’s doors.

Regarding the military industry and arms production, we, like Serbia, Bosnia, or Croatia, do not have a production industry for military equipment. We want to have it available. We have worked and are working to find the right agreement, the right partners. To revitalize our old infrastructure. President Zelensky spoke to us about the possibility of cooperation, which means investment, production, and cooperation.

Everyone said yes. Not just Albania. This is a process. We know we need to invest in defense. Everything we can do in this direction, we will do. We will do it with allies” said Rama.
