Ambassador of Greece in Albania, Kostandina Kamitsi, arrived this Wednesday at the detention facilities of Vlora, where Fredi Beleri, the elected mayor of Himara has been detained.
Beleri that ran under the slogan of “We win together” coalition , was arrested by the police a few hours before the elections after he was caught bargaining with votes.
His arrest brought strong reactions from the Greek government, who called the court’s decision scandalous and not in accordance with the law. These reactions were not received well by the Albanian government, which undelrined that Beleri’s arrest is based on clear and indisputable evidence.
On her part, Minister Olta Xhaçka called on Greek friends to refrain from statements that do not respect the independent institutions of Albania.
