The head of the Municipality of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, appeared today in the Special Court of First Instance for Corruption and Organized Crime (GJKKO), where he will participate in the first session of the trial against Sali Berisha.
The mayor has sued Berisha for defamation for the statements he has made in recent days about ties with Iran.
Berisha accused Veliaj of the Tirana incinerator and his so-called connections with Iran. For these accusations, he filed a criminal complaint with the GJKKO.
Berisha declared a few days ago that Veliaj is laundering the money of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard.
