Senior political leaders paid tribute to the “Mother Albania” memorial this Friday, on the occasion of Martyrs’ Day. Prime Minister Edi Rama and the mayor of Tirana Erion Veliaj laid wreaths in honor of all the martyrs, who sacrificed their lives for a free Albania.
Martyrs’ Day was decided to be May 5, 1942, the day when Qemal Stafa, a young communist activist of the National Liberation War, was killed by the Italian fascists.
Before the creation of the Albanian state, the Albanian people remembered their martyrs and kept their legends alive, through the epic song, their heritage and history from generation to generation.
