Zykaj: It is unlikely that Albania will be separated from Northern Macedonia

schedule 20:00 - 22 Prill, 2022

Prime Minister Edi Rama’s statement that he would demand the secession of Albania from Northern Macedonia for the EU integration process does not seem to have found support in the bloc countries.

ABC journalist in Brussels, Erisa Zykaj in “Radar Informativ” with Juli Xhokaxhi said that so far it is unlikely that this request will be accepted. Zykaj emphasizes that Northern Macedonia has received the status of candidate country since 2005 and it would be unfair.

“It is unlikely so far. This call is not heard because it is about a place. Macedonia received candidate status in 2005. Member states can not do that to northern Macedonia. It was very unfair that first it was blocked by Greece, then Bulgaria. This can be a problem for us later. A certain criterion must be set. So far there is no division of Northern Macedonia and Albania. “The call of the Prime Minister of Albania has not been heard yet”, said the journalist.

Immediately, in an interview with Erisa Zykaj, the rapporteur for Albania in the European Parliament, Isabel Santos said that the EP says with one voice, that our country is ready for the official opening of membership negotiations in the European Union and a date should be set for holding the first intergovernmental conference.
