The Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Olta Xhaçka emphasized that the process of Albania’s accession to the EU should be accelerated. At the meeting of the National Council for European Integration, the minister emphasized that Albania’s progress since the opening of negotiations is satisfactory, adding that she hopes that EU will set a deadline for membership.
“We welcome the commitment of EU with a new approach to our region and we know that the process needs to be accelerated in order to gain time that we have lost.
Of course doing our duties. I am proud to point out the EU institutions have appreciated our seriousness in the process with EU values and principles in internal, external, regional and international politics.
EU membership process is a joint process of our society where all factors are involved.
It is a national objective, for the achievement of which we will not stop working. Albania’s 1-year performance, since the opening of negotiations, is more than satisfactory in our estimation, the screening process is continuing and we have received positive evaluations for the preparation and commitment of our delegations to undertake the tasks.
We are waiting for the organization of the next intergovernmental conference for the opening of the organization of the next intergovernmental conference for the opening of the grouping of the basic negotiation chapters, after the approval of the screening report of the commission, with the aim that it will happen by the end of this year.
We are part of the EU financial package, mainly for the energy crisis resulting from the Russian aggression against Ukraine, we are implementing the economic investment plan for the Western Balkans with strategic projects in priority areas, and we are part of the discussion with the commission to implement the project of economic growth announced by the EC president.
Here, our expectations are high and I believe that we are on the right track to give a new boost to our entire integration process by deciding that maybe even a deadline until 2030, Albania but also the countries of the region that will progress , to be able to join the EU,” Xhaçka said, among others.
