Appellate Instance of the Special Court against Corruption and Organized Crime (GJKKO) has left the elected mayor Fredi Beleri in prison this Thursday and has changed the measure for Pandeli Kokaveshi from prison arrest to forced appearance.

Through his lawyer, Edmond Demo, Beleri asked for release from prison and change of the “prison arrest” measure, imposed by the Anticorruption Court at the request of SPAK.

The appeal was made not only by Beleri, but also by Pandeli Kokaveshi, who was hospitalized after his arrest. However, the investigation against Fredi Beler was carried out following a police referral on May 8, which engaged the prosecution on suspicions of vote-buying.

Prosecution revealed that then, a citizen offered to cooperate with justice, exposing Beler and Kokavesh who are suspected of paying money in exchange for votes.

Nevertheless, the payment was made in a bar, on which the authorities emphasized that they have environmental surveillance conducted by an operational group sent from Tirana.
