Vjosa a National Park, Meta appeals on EU authorities to support the case

On World Environment Day, the President of the Republic Ilir Meta calls for the proclamation of the Vjosa River, a National Park. Meta thanks the research work carried out by a group of scientists from Austria, Germany, Italy and Albania.

“I support the call of the local community, of local and foreign scientists, academics and environmental activists, of world film, art and culture personalities, such as Leonardo Di Caprio and Edward Norton, to the Albanian government, not to allow and to was withdrawn from the construction of hydropower plants and any other destructive and abusive project in this area “, writes Meta.

He also encouraged senior European Union authorities to support the cause, which he said belonged to all.

“On World Environment Day, I strongly emphasize the importance of declaring the Vjosa a National Park on all tributaries of the river, in order to protect this extraordinary national and European natural resource.

I congratulate the recent study conducted by a group of scientists from Austria, Germany, Italy and Albania, and appreciate their valuable conclusions and contribution to the identification, preservation and promotion of rare ecological values ​​of the Vjosa River.

I support their call, of the local community, of local and foreign scientists, academics and environmental activists, of world film, art and culture personalities, such as Leonardo Di Caprio and Edward Norton, to the Albanian Government, to not allow and to withdraw from the construction of hydropower plants and any other destructive and abusive projects in the area.

I encourage all the high authorities of the European Union to strongly support the cause, which belongs to us all, recalling the resolution of the European Parliament for the proclamation of the Vjosa National Park.
