The Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, is on a visit to Washington, where he held a series of important meetings in the US Congress and Senate. Veliaj was received by the Speaker of the Congress, Nancy Pelosi, as well as by the former candidate for President of the USA, Senator Mitt Romney.
The mayor of Tirana was also received by the congressman of New York, Ritchie Torres, and the leader of the majority in the American Senate, Charles Schumer.
After the meetings, Veliaj said that this is a very important moment in the relations between Albania and our allies, the United States of America.
“The visit to the American Congress and Senate is an extraordinary pleasure, not only because Tirana is in the center of attention as the European Youth Capital, but also for challenging events such as the recent attacks from Iran, or for some difficult situations that we have had since the position that Albania maintains, being on the side of the United States of America, as well as being determined to preserve its values, welcoming those in need and giving a hand to all those in difficulty “, declared Veliaj.
As he claimed, in the meeting with the president of the Congress, Veliaj informed Pelosi about the latest developments and invited her for a visit to Tirana.
“I met Speaker Pelosi with all the news from Tirana and Albania. Our Prime Minister has a special respect for the United States of America, as a key ally, as a determined leader, and as someone who has always made the right decisions, both for our American and NATO allies, and for welcoming those who are in need, it doesn’t matter if they are Ukrainians, Afghans or even Iranians sheltered in Tirana”, said Veliaj.
The mayor says that Albania’s relations with the United States of America are at the best level today and our country enjoys a reputation it has never had before.
“I am glad that the relations with America are at the best level today, where at all levels, both in the central and local government, Albania has an open door and the name of Albania today enjoys a reputation that is not never enjoyed it before. Therefore, I am really proud of everything we have done for Tirana, as the European Youth Capital. Many meetings that are being planned with the Congress and the American Senate to visit Albania in the future, I believe will strengthen these bridges of cooperation. With friends like the United States of America, the best days will always be ahead of us,” said Veliaj.
Mayor Veliaj’s visit to Washington will continue with other important meetings, but also with the Albanian community located in the United States of America.
