Oliver Varhelyi, Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement in the presentation of Progress Reports in the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the European Parliament, has stated that delays in the opening of negotiations have a negative impact. According to him, Albania and Northern Macedonia have met the conditions for the EU.
The Commissioner stressed out that Albania has achieved tangible results with the reforms. In his speech, Varhelyi also said that Albania has made progress, the elections are generally well conducted.
“Delays in the official launch of membership negotiations with Albania and Northern Macedonia have a negative impact on the credibility of the EU. The pending bilateral issues between Bulgaria and Northern Macedonia should be resolved as a matter of priority.
“It is essential that EU Member States conclude discussions on the Negotiating Frameworks without further delay and that the first intergovernmental conferences with both countries be held as soon as possible and before the end of this year,” he said./abcnews.al
