The decision of the Constitutional Court not to dismiss President Ilir Meta, has brought the reaction of the US Embassy in Tirana.
A day after the ruling, the embassy wrote that the Constitutional Court was “demonstrating its ability to fulfill its primary and essential function by examining the facts and arguments presented by the parties concerned, discussing these facts and arguments under the Constitution, and issuing decisions that reflect independence and integrity”.
“The Constitutional Court of Albania, which achieved functionality in December 2020, is demonstrating its ability to serve its primary and essential function by reviewing the facts and arguments presented by relevant parties, deliberating on these facts and arguments as they relate to the Constitution, and rendering judgments that reflect independence and integrity.
The United States strongly supports the implementation of justice reform, including a professional, independent judiciary as a core institution for the guarantee of the rule of law as well as the separation and balancing of powers.
