Two persons to face justice on vote-rigging charges

Special Prosecution against Corruption and Organized Crime (SPAK) has taken this Friday for trial Kristo Agalliu, who was filmed talking about buying and selling votes in the May 14 elections.

According to the local media, the 52-year-old was the coordinator of the Freedom Party in Kuçova that promised to bring voters from Kuçova to Tirana.

In relation to this event, the citizen Agron Duro was also investigated while being at large.

From the investigations, it has emerged that on May 9, 2023, Kristo Agalliu offered monetary sums to the defendant Agron Duraj to influence the will of the latter, in order to vote for a certain candidate in the Elections for Local Government Bodies, that took place on May 14, 2023.

“At the end of the preliminary investigations of criminal proceedings no. 96 of 2023, the Special Prosecutor’s Office Against Corruption and Organized Crime submitted to the Special Court of First Instance for Corruption and Organized Crime (on 27.09.2023) the request for judgment against the defendants:

1. Kristo Agalliu, accused of the criminal offense of “Active corruption in elections”, provided by Article 328 of the Criminal Code.
2. Agron Duraj, accused of the criminal offense of “Passive corruption in elections”, provided by article 328/b of the Criminal Code.

The investigation of this criminal proceeding has resulted that, on May 9, 2023, the defendant Kristo Agalliu offered monetary sums to the defendant Agron Duraj to influence the will of the latter, in order to vote for a certain candidate in the Elections for Local Government Bodies, which took place on May 14, 2023″, as quoted from SPAK’s announcement.
