Tributes have begun at the National Theater of Opera and Ballet in honor of the writer Ismail Kadare, who passed away at the age of 88. Helena Kadare, the wife of the late writer, arrived at the theater accompanied by the mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj.
The highest heads of state, politics and art personalities will participate in the tributes.
At 11:30 a.m., the state farewell ceremony for the writer will be held, while at 12:30 p.m. the escorting procession to the final resting place in the Tufina cemetery will begin. At 13.00 a minute of silence will be observed.
Ismail Kadare was the best writer of Albanian literature, one of the best writers of contemporary world literature, and the most translated Albanian author abroad (in 45 languages). He was also the winner of several international literary awards as well as nominated several times for the Nobel Prize.
