Special Court against Corruption and Organized Crime (GJKKO) has postponed this Monday the session against the former Minister of Defense, Fatmir Mediu, who was taken as a defendant in the “Gërdeci” case.
Reason for postponing the session is because the Prosecution needs time to present the final charges. The next session will take place on May 9 at 14:00.
Mediu was taken as a defendant by SPAK, which closed the investigations and sent the case to the former minister for trial, regarding the explosion that happened in Gërdec.
In the Special Prosecution’s announcement, it was said that at the end of the investigations, it was decided that the case will be sent to GJKKO, with the accusation of abuse of duty carried out in cooperation.
“At the end of the preliminary investigations, a request was submitted to the Special Court for Corruption and Organized Crime to send to court the criminal case no. 279 of 2021, in charge of the defendant Fatmir Mediu, accused of the criminal offense “Abuse of duty” , carried out in collaboration, provided for by articles 248 and 25 of the Criminal Code, as well as for the commission of the criminal offense “Abuse of duty” in collaboration with a military subject-commanding staff, provided for in articles 70/2 and 2 of the Military Criminal Code and Article 25 of the Criminal Code”, the announcement said.
SPAK announced that the division of the criminal case has been decided, for the criminal offenses “Passive corruption of high state officials or local elected officials” and “Cleaning of the proceeds of criminal offense or criminal activity”, for which the investigation is still being conducted.
