Trade facilitation between Albania and Kosovo, enters in force the agreement on customs procedures

Businesses of Albania and Kosovo will have fewer controls at border points. This is after the decision which aims to facilitate the procedures at the border inspection points for products of non-animal origin came into force.

This decision was taken to promote trade between the two countries, remove barriers, ease control procedures and strengthen cooperation between the two countries in the field of agriculture.

The agreement stipulates that import, transit and export control of food products of non-animal origin can be carried out at the Border Inspection Point or at the nearest customs office of the country of destination, according to the subject’s request.

While the authorities responsible for food safety of each party will allow import and export, accompanied by recognized certificates or analysis reports or other suitable document, issued according to the legislation of each party, which guarantees food safety.

Likewise, controls on subjects are expected to be coordinated and each party will notify each other of risk-based control plans and regulatory acts that are approved in the field of food safety.

Despite the measures taken, trade relations between Kosovo and Albania remain at modest levels.

From the Instat data, it can be observed that Albanian exports prevail, which in the 7 months of this year have touched the figure of 23.7 billion ALL, experiencing an increase of 1.7 billion compared to the previous year.

Meanwhile, imports remain minimal. During the January-July period, the value of imports is only 6.3 billion ALL. The duration of this agreement is expected to be 5 years, from the moment of its signing./abcnews.al
