The Special Prosecutor’s Office has requested to call as witnesses in the “Gerdeci” file, the son of former Prime Minister Sali Berisha, Shkelzen Berisha and the former Minister of Justice of the time Aldo Bumçi.
In addition to them, SPAK asked the court to provide clarifications to the former Minister of Defense at that time, Fatmir Mediu.
According to SPAK, the list of 52 witnesses was submitted to the court where they are required to provide explanations regarding the Gerdec explosion in 2008, where the former minister Fatmir Mediu was taken as a defendant.
The summons of Berisha and Bumçi is related to a letter issued at that time by the Ministry of Justice, where there was an article about Shkelzen.
It will be seen in today’s session if the list of witnesses called by the prosecution will be accepted, while earlier Mediu’s defense lawyers have presented a list to the SPAK, where they have requested to call high-ranking army officials as per the manner of dismantling of weapons in Gerdec.
The former minister, Fatmir Mediu, is accused by the prosecution of having committed violations in connection with the process of demilitarization and dismantling of ammunition in the premises of the former “Tank Brigade”, in Gërdec. According to SPAK, Mediu, in cooperation with other officials of the Ministry of Defense, issued sub-legal acts in violation of the law.
In addition to Mediu, SPAK is investigating another faction for “Corruption” and “Money Laundering” in relation to contracts signed for the sale of ammunition. So far, Aldo Bumçi, former minister of justice at the time, and Shkelzen Berisha, son of former prime minister Sali Berisha, have been questioned./abcnews.al
