24 hours were not enough for the legal defenders of Ilir Beqaj to familiarize themselves with the file of the special prosecution for his arrest.
In the session that started at 09:00, they asked for time to familiarize themselves with the file in question, which led to the postponement of the session by a few hours.
Former minister Beqaj is expected to meet the security measure on Saturday at 12:30, requested by SPAK, with the suspicion of corruption. Beqaj was arrested the day before by order of SPAK, on the charge of abusing SASPAC funds. According to the prosecution, former minister Beqaj, at the time he held the position of director of the state agency of strategic programs known as SASPAK, set up a truly corrupt scheme with the aim of benefiting from sums of money by organizing fictitious tenders. In addition to Beqaj, two of his associates, Ermal Kërtulaj and Alfred Naikolla, have also been arrested.
The court has set the measure of house arrest for Gazmend Haxhina and Elton Marini, while Bledar Leka and Bjona Zijaj will be investigated in a free state. Against the former minister Beqaj and other persons SPAK has raised several charges, starting with that of corruption, concealment or non-declaration of wealth, violation of equality in tenders and fraud.
Beqaj, during the time he was leading the agency, organized at least eight tenders for services within the framework of two events organized in 2023, but in reality they were not subjected to a regular procurement procedure, but the winner was agreed and determined long before to carry out the procurement procedure, which was carried out fictitiously, for the purpose of documentation and payment.
SPAK says that it has documented that Ilir Beqaj has hidden the ownership of this restaurant, a car and the values invested in the restaurant, in the amount of about 56 thousand euros.
