The last wild river in Europe, the Vjosa has been officially declared a National Park. The decision taken today during the meeting of the Council of Ministers was announced by the Minister of Tourism and Environment, Mirela Kumbaro, who emphasized that the total area declared National Park is 12,727 hectares.

“Today we have the final decision to declare the Vjosa River the last wild river in Europe as a National Park, the second category of protection that is much higher than what it had a year ago as a Natural Park.

We have extended this protection surface to 12,727 ha, which is the entire water surface, the river bank, together with the land surface, which together with the three branches of the river Vjosa, Drino, Bënsh, Shushice do what is needed, which is today the first park of a wild river in Europe,” said Kumbaro.
