The Greek ambassador in Tirana, Kostandina Kamitsi, met this morning with the director of the region at the Albanian Foreign Ministry.
The Greek diplomat has expressed to the Albanian side her concern about the arrest of Fredi Beleri, the candidate of the “Bashkë Fitojmë” coalition for the municipality of Himara.
ABC News learns that the diplomat did not send a note of protest to Albania for the incident. The meeting came after official Athens reacted to Beleri’s arrest. The Greek Foreign Ministry announced that by order of the Greek Minister Nikos Dendias, Ambassador Kamitsi would remain at the Foreign Ministry.
“After the news about the arrest by the Albanian authorities of Dionisis-Fredi Beleri, candidate for Mayor of Himara in KEAD, the ambassador of Greece in Tirana, Konstantina Kamitsi, following the instructions of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikos Dendias, is conducting a visit today, on the 12 May at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Albania,” it is stated in the announcement.
