The Special Prosecutor’s Office (SPAK) has submitted the request to the Ministry of Justice for the extradition of Durim Bami. Durim Bami was arrested a few days ago in Dubai following an arrest warrant issued by the Special Prosecutor’s Office.
“SPAK has submitted the request to the Ministry of Justice. Durim Bami is suspected of a number of criminal offences. An arrest warrant was issued against him by GJKKO. He is expected to be extradited to our country.
The Ministry of Justice will send a request to the authorities in Dubai, We will see if this request from the Albanian side will be accepted”, reported ABC News journalist Ermal Vija, among others.
Bami is accused of “false report” in the same file where MP Tom Doshi and former MP Mark Frroku are also defendants. The defendant Bami was arrested on March 2, 2015 at the border crossing point of Hani i Hoti, in the district of Malësi e Madhe.
The cause was the public statements of MP Tom Doshi, that Bami was “recruited” for the physical elimination of him and the other MP Mhill Fufi. After his arrest, he denied having received orders for the murder and claimed that he was threatened by the deputy to be recorded talking about the “scenario” of his elimination.
Durim Bami was under “house arrest” since May 8, 2015, after he was released from two months of “prison arrest”. Although three years have passed, the trial of this case has not started.
After submission to the Supreme Court, the file went to the Constitutional Court for interpretation of competence. Then to Serious Crimes, again to the High Court and recently to the Court of Tirana. Subsequently, Bami requested release from “house arrest”, a request that was refused, until the measure lost its effects./abcnews.al
