A 34-year-old man has been arrested in Gjirokastra area, after he was caught transporting 22 immigrants in a van, the police announced Tuesday. During the attempt to get away from the police at midnight, he crashed two vehicles and injured a police officer, whose life is out of danger.
Following the arrest, the officers seized the vehicle in which the immigrants were being transported and 3 mobile phones, while the materials were handed over to the Prosecutor’s Office for further action.
“Specialists of the Illegal Traffic Investigation Section of the DVP Gjirokastër, in cooperation with the Operational Section, following the work to combat the criminal activity of providing assistance to foreign citizens, for illegal border crossing, against profit, as a result of a investigative work with proactive methods, under the direction of the Prosecutor’s Office, have successfully organized and finalized the coded police operation “Road Guard 72″, as a result of which the citizen was arrested in flagrante delicto, 34 years old, resident of Lushnje.
In an attempt to avoid being caught by the police, the citizen crashed two vehicles on the road, and slightly injured a police officer who was on duty, who received medical help at the Gjirokastra hospital and is out of danger .
As material evidence, the van and 3 mobile phones were seized”, informed the law enforcement.
