Speaking to reporters in Berlin, Prime Minister Edi Rama, while talking about the issue of negotiations, stated that our country will be separated from Northern Macedonia in case the negotiation process is blocked again in June by Bulgaria’s veto.
Describing the meeting with the Federal Chancellor of Germany, Olaf Scholz, as very positive, the Prime Minister said that he is optimistic about the change in the condition of Bulgaria. However, Rama stressed that he is not as optimistic, but hopes that he is wrong.
Excerpts from Rama’s conversation with journalists:
Rama: This was the first visit to the chancellery after the change of chancellor of Germany. This was Scholz’s second meeting after meeting when he was mayor of Hamburg. The meeting was extremely positive. Regarding the considerations for Albania for the role of Albania in the international arena. Albania’s progress in the EU membership process and in bilateral relations. We had a long conversation then we held a working dinner where we went through all the topics of interest.
Does the chancellor support the separation of Albania from MV?
Rama: I did not ask for this, I just informed them that we have an approach that until the European Council in June will be unchanged, but in case we are again blocked due to Bulgaria based on the broad support that has received from public opinion after I told him about national counseling, we will change approach and speak another language.
The chancellor said at the conference and in both rounds of talks that he was optimistic about changing Bulgaria’s condition. I’m not so optimistic but I hope I’m wrong and the chancellor is right.
