schedule 13:00 - 6 Qershor, 2022

In an explanation regarding the questions raised as to why the air does not intervene to extinguish the fires in Sazan, the Ministry of Defense informs that the Armed Forces have and have at their disposal the necessary flying vehicles, intended for use in the performance of their duties of operations they have to perform even in emergencies like fires.

The Ministry informs that some of them helicopters have passed the maintenance process and are located in Albania, but it is not clarified why they are not yet being used to extinguish the flames.

“The Armed Forces have at their disposal and have at their disposal the necessary flying equipment, intended for use in fulfilling the tasks and operations that must be performed even in cases of emergencies such as fires. The Armed Forces has light helicopters on standby, but in the specifics of their use have limitations to participate and fulfill tasks in cases of different types of emergency operations. The Air Force has state-of-the-art helicopters equipped with medical emergency operations equipment, as well as modern, fourth-generation modern military helicopters.

The battle with the fires on the island of Sazan continues today. Some hotspots are still active despite the work of operational forces in the field. The work is being done only from the ground by circumstantial means, while from the air there is not even an intervention. Sources for abc said explosions were heard in the area, suspected to be old ammunition. But for General Director of Civil Emergencies Haki Cako, the helicopter to be mounted from the air was found. It was Minister Niko Peleshi who posted on Facebook the inspection of Çako. In the face of public criticism for not intervening from the air, Peleshi says army forces are creating deforested belts around the fires.

The lives of the emergency forces are also in danger due to the ammunition located in the area. Sources from the Vlora fire brigade told Abc that there were two explosions near the military unit. Dozens of emergency forces have been deployed in the area where the radars are located to prevent involvement from the flames. So far there is no data on how many hectares of land have been burned. The first suspicions are that the fire was accidentally set by tourists.
