In the Progress report for Albania, the country is warned that initiatives for fiscal amnesty and so-called “golden passports” risk contradicting the norms of the European Union.

The Deputy Prime Minister, Belinda Balluku, and the Ambassador of the European Union Delegation, Christiane Hohmann, held a conference today regarding the 2022 Progress Report for Albania.

The ambassador said that the EC (European Commission) has advised to put an end to the granting of citizenship in this type of form, but emphasized that each country must decide for itself. While the talks on the fiscal amnesty are continuing.

As for the golden passports, we have referred to the practices of other EU countries, which to this day have these programs under process, continue and apply them. We have referred to them for what they bring to the world and the benefits they have received based on the best experiences of these European countries.
