The Italian Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, in the press conference she is holding after inspecting the works at the reception center for immigrants in Lezhë, also answered the question about the recent attacks on the Albanian government after the approval of the agreement months ago.

“I think that the real reason is not to attack the government and the Albanian people, but I believe that there are different legal or legitimate attitudes hostile to the Italian government and that play into their point of view by revealing their entire attitude. I think that the fact that to attack the Italian government an international partner is also attacked, because not only the Italian government but also Italy, is damaged.

Regardless of the success or failure of the agreement, all of this is part of the backlash against the Italian government. Here we risk causing damage to the whole country. Anyway, the Italian press has made its choice, I expressed my determination and solidarity to reject this mudslinging and I promise that in the future we will be more attentive to all the proposals or agreements we make. We cannot put neighboring relations or relations with other countries at risk,” said Meloni.
