On July 11 and 12, the leaders of the member states of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) will meet in Vilnius, Lithuania. They are expected to address the most urgent challenges for the alliance, to increase the defensive and preventive capacities of NATO, as well as to bring Ukraine closer to the group, according to the alliance. Albania, as a NATO member country, has proven its commitment and seriousness, taking concrete steps to increase its contribution to maintaining peace and security.
Prime Minister Edi Rama added that Albania is ready to commit additional troops to strengthen its presence in NATO and that it is committed to increasing defense spending to 2% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
This Tuesday, Rama writes that the Summit in Vilnius finds the strongest and most determined allies for maintaining peace. “And with the message of this year’s Vilnius Summit, Lithuania finds its NATO allies stronger and more determined, to protect the freedom and security of our peoples, I wish you a good day,” wrote Rama.
The Secretary General of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg, has emphasized that the decisions to be taken at the summit will bring Ukraine closer to NATO. “The decisions we will take in Vilnius will bring Ukraine closer to NATO… strengthening NATO’s defense will be at the top of the agenda of our summit, as well,” said Jens Stoltenberg
