Prime Minister Edi Rama has gathered this morning the rectors of public and non-public universities in the country, at a time when lecturers are on boycott demanding salary increases.
Rama thanked the rectors for the achievements of the universities, while adding that he raised the issue of higher education at the meeting of the Political Community in Prague.
“Before I say a few more words about what I mentioned, I want to let you know that, as we had discussed with the rectors, at the Prague meeting of what has been baptized as the new European Political Community, I have raised the topic of university as a topic that should be considered by the EU to be addressed and addressed without waiting for Albania and the countries of the Western Balkans to become members.
It means we have, as candidate countries and negotiating EU membership, a partial access to the European system of higher education and the relevant funding.
Meanwhile, EU universities with full access to that system have, on the one hand, the possibility of creating immediate synergies between them and the possibility of extra funding. It is impossible for us today.
We have started a process called the internationalization of universities and I want to thank the rectors because we see very encouraging steps. I also want to thank them for the fact that there is a significant impetus towards the annexation of European funds for that part of the system that we can access as of today as a candidate country”, said Rama.
