Prime Minister Edi Rama declared from Brussels that the European Union is more aware of the importance of the Western Balkans.

In a joint media conference, with Oliver Ropke, President of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC), Vera Jourova, Delegated Vice-President of the European Commission of Values and Transparency and Milojko Spajic, Prime Minister of Montenegro, Rama stated that it is sad that it was needed the war  Ukraine for the European Union to remember this.

Regarding the growth plan of the European Union, the head of government added that this process is what should happen in the near future for the European Union and the Western Balkans.

“I think it is time for the EU to understand that the candidate countries of the Western Balkans are not only mature enough, but are in a situation where they deserve to be embraced and brought closer, without necessarily being full members, which is and end goal.

What is happening today is an exemplary example of what must happen next. The European Union is much more aware in deeds, not only in words, of the strategic importance of the Western Balkans for the European Union.

It’s sad that it took Vladimir Putin for this to happen.

We must maintain this pace by moving forward, with bold steps, not waiting for another aggression, another catastrophe, to remind us, to remind the people in Brussels, how important the Western Balkans is for the European Union.

We always say that the European Union is very important for us, but the European Union must understand it, so that this awareness becomes practical”, he emphasized.
